This world is a complicated place and we, as parents, have an obligation to equip and empower our children to be successful navigators. God has provided all the wisdom our children need to overcome and dominate any adversity they will ever encounter in life through His Word. But in order for our children to have access to that wisdom, we must first deposit it in them by teaching them the Word of God. Frederick Douglas once said, “Better to build strong children, than to repair broken men.” There is a window of opportunity in a child’s life when we can teach them God’s word; equip them to succeed and  prepare them to face adversity knowing that God’s Word - in them - is strong enough to overcome any of life’s challenges. In Deuteronomy 6, God gave His people a mandate regarding their children. This is what He said:

This was a command, not a suggestion; and not based on convenience. Life happens fast, I know. How often have you said to yourself, “This is a convenient time for me to teach my children the Word of God”?  This isn’t a criticism. I know from experience. But the pace of our lives does not  exempt us, as parents, from what God requires. Just as God commanded His people to teach His Word to their children in Deuteronomy 6 back then, He is holding us accountable to teach our children His Word …NOW. Times may change, but God never changes. It says so in Malachi 3:6 and Hebrews 13:8, too.

In Deuteronomy 6, God is saying that teaching His Word to our children is a priority; a daily priority, not something that happens on Sundays only or at a mid-week service or during an annual, one-week session of Vacation Bible School. Please don’t misunderstand me. I thank God for these programs. My children have benefited from all of them. But it’s what happens in your child’s life on a daily basis will make the biggest, most-lasting impact on his/her life.

My desire to establish a routine with my children that included time spent learning the Word of God inspired me to find a way to make it easier for other parents to do the same. All of us desire to fulfill the “Deuteronomy 6 Command,” right? Well, God gave me a way and I’d like to share it with you. The LifeSpeak for Kids CDs are fun, interactive and convenient.
